Knowledge base

Parents ask about Grade 4 Math

1What does a 4th grade math tutor work on?
The Common Core grade 4 units, in the school's order: long multiplication and long division, equivalent fractions and adding fractions, decimals to hundredths, factors and multiples, angles and symmetry, and multi-step word problems. The first lesson is a short diagnostic, because a child stuck in 4th grade usually has one gap from the grade before (a fact, a place-value idea, or fractions), and the tutor fixes that first, then teaches the week's topic a few days ahead of the class so homework gets easier at once. Online works for this age: one tutor, one child, a shared whiteboard the child writes on, 45 minutes, twice a week.
2How much does a 4th grade math tutor cost, and is online as good as a tutor near me?
US elementary and middle-school math tutors charge $35 to $70 an hour in person; learning centres $150 to $300 a month. A 1-on-1 online 4th grade math tutor with us is US$10 to $13 an hour, billed monthly with no contract, the recording and notes after every class. Online is as good for this age when it is one child with one tutor on a shared whiteboard (not a group class or an app): the tutor sees every line of working, the same as sitting beside the child, and the parent can watch the recording. The same tutor stays all year, and the free 30-minute first class is a real lesson on this week's homework.
3Do you follow my child's school syllabus for Grade 4 Math?
Yes. Grade 4 Math classes are mapped to Common Core 4 · KS2 · Australian Year 4 · CBSE Class 4. Send us the textbook or exam board name and we plan around the same sequence, so what your child learns with us is exactly what is tested at school.
4How many Grade 4 Math classes a week do you recommend?
Most families start with two 1-on-1 classes a week for a term, then adjust. Before an exam we add mock-paper sessions. There is no long-term contract and you can pause any time.
5What does a Grade 4 Math class look like?
One tutor, one child, on a shared whiteboard: a five-minute recap, the new concept explained with diagrams, guided practice where the tutor watches every step, then a summary with notes, an assignment and the recording.
6Which exams do you prepare Grade 4 Math students for?
State tests (CAASPP, STAAR, MCAS) and school exams; mock papers in the real format. Mock papers are marked and reviewed live in class.
7Is the first class free?
Yes — a 30-minute demo in English, Hindi or Punjabi, no card and no obligation. Parents are welcome to sit in.
